It’s great to be back in the classroom working with the students! My first week back was very welcoming! The students seemed eager and excited about being in class and learning. We are halfway through reading our marking period novel, Warriors Don’t Cry. The students are becoming more familiar with the struggles The Little Rock Nine encountered on a daily basis. One of the writing assignments the students have just completed was comparing Central High School to Grace Wilday. All in all, the students are off to a great start! I look forward to engaging them with a variety of activities and expanding their knowledge on various topics.

During the month of November, the students have been busy doing various activities. The students are finishing up their marking period core novel. Through this book we have had many class discussions using Socratic Seminars. The students enjoy being able to voice their thoughts and feelings on the given topics.  In addition, the students have completed two writing assignments. One assignment focused on symbolism where students had to create or choose a symbol that represents a certain aspect in the book and write an essay. Students also wrote poems titled, "I Do Not Understand". These poems focused on problems that the student does not understand about our world/society.  I look forward to the students working and researching information about the Holocaust second marking period.
