Mrs. Loux


This class focuses on coursework in which students read various genres of literature, complete a myriad of writing assignments, and conduct a variety of research tasks. Students, working independently and in cooperative learning teams, are expected to complete class work, homework, tests and quizzes, and projects. All students are expected to perform at their highest potential; while striving to meet or exceed the Common Core standards.

All students are expected to read novels, short stories, and other varied texts that are assigned. The novels that we will be focusing on this school year are: Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass: The Story Behind an American Friendship  by Russell Freedman, Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals, The Pact by Drs. Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, & George Jenkins, and Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. Students are also expected to complete written and oral assignments that include Personal Narrative, Persuasive, Argumentative, Explanatory, Research, and Poetry. There will also be ongoing preparation for the state assessment known as the PARCC, which will be taken online.

Grading:
Homework = 10%
Class Work = 15%
Quizzes = 25%
Tests = 30%
Projects = 20%
